Wall mounted system for storing fishing poles
Like to fish? Have plans to clean and organize your garage? I ran across this storage device while at the Container Store over the weekend and thought it was sleek and efficient. Upon inspection of the product, I discovered that it also could work as a way to store fencing foils and pool sticks. It would probably be easy, too, to make one out of wood planks if you have access to a drill press and jigsaw. Just a storage idea to pass along …

I do just fine with a couple of cup hooks screwed to the underside of a wooden shelf.

Speciality stores such as Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops have a large selection of fishing rod holders, which as you pointed out, can be used to store other things. They are called “Rod Racks” and come in all shapes and sizes. Another storage solution which I have migrated from my fishing to many other uses in the house are tackle utility boxes from Plano or similar types. They are made of sturdy plastic and come in different sizes. The kids love them for things from Lego to Polly Pockets.

Pool cues should be stored vertically, so this is not a good solution for them.

My parents had something similar for fishing rods or other things held vertically. At the bottom was a 2×4 bracketed horizontally to the wall, with circular “divots” drilled into it (~1.5″ across). A few feet up a 2×4 was screwed into the wall, with 2″ sections of garden hose screwed into it. Cut slits in the front of the hose, and you slip the fishing rod in. Cheap and easy!
