Beth, if you can check this again, I’d love to know what you’re using to cut the sweet potato fries. I’ve gone through 3 of the garden variety cutters, and I even cut the sweet pototatos in 8 pieces first.

Don’t food processors often have attachments that cut fries? I think that would be a much more justifiable purchase than this unitasker.

I’ve been reading this blog for a while now I just wanted to say I really don’t like single use items like this so I love Unitasker Wednesday! Also its good to see encouragement of cutting fries by hand! Its so hard sometimes to experiences of people who do things by hand instead of with odd appliances, especially in the kitchen.

I agree with fj ... the mandolin rocks!! Quite the space-saving alternative to this huge thing.

A nice compromise is a mandoline. It’s not a one trick wonder, but a huge time saver for all kinds of slicing tasks in the kitchen. It’ll do a few different slices (julienne, for example) in addition to the classic french fry. It’s fairly compact as well. Get an expensive one (100-150 $US new)- the cheap ones do NOT work.

Okay- enough picking on Williams Sonoma. I’m sure the Sharper Image has something worthy

When I lived in England, fish and chips came wrapped in newspaper (I dislike fish, so I only had it once, but it was fun!)

My knife skills are sub-par, but I’m pretty sure I could handle making french fries, for the amount of space that this would take in the kitchen.

This thing can be a boon if you have a lot of chopping to do. I watch the guy at my favorite burrito joint chop onions, peppers, lettuce and even tomatos with it. He’ll tear through an entire box of onions in under a minute. So if you entertain often or have a few kids, the time that this little baby saves you in the kitchen may be gold.

I don’t know, I have a pretty minimalist kitchen and I find we use our French fry cutter several times a month. Granted, ours is about a third that size If you haven’t tried sweet potato French fries, you’re missing out in life.

I actually got one of these as a gift and I wish I was kidding.

I couldn’t get it out of my house fast enough.

I put it on craigslist and it sold pretty quickly.

I’ve eaten french fries in french bistros many times, and they never came in a rolled newspaper sheet. This french fry holder is a hoax I suspect.

OK, you can stop ripping the apple peeler,slicer,corer now. I have one and LOVE it. I freeze apples for pies in the fall and this gets the job done. Also kids love eating an apple thats spiral cut. Mine is 15 yrs old, so not a bad for a real time saver.
