The load thing
We’ve been on a big charging station kick here lately, so reader Leigh sent in this way cool design. This thing looks like a unitasker, but at about $13 it’s not such a bad way to turn what could be a cable eyesore into a stylish accent.

The Load-Thing comes flat-pack and you fold it yourself. It hooks up to your electric socket and then the device you’re charging (iPod, cell phone, camera, whatever) sits on it. So, is this thing clutter itself or a very neat solution?

I saw this little device on lifehacker a few months ago. At the time, I thought it was cute — and cheerful. Now, I think it could would just be additional clutter in my apartment if I bought it. Why not just use a table or windowsill to charge?

Well, the only good reason is that some chargers have five-foot cables that are an eyesore. Some folks might think bunched-up cables are more clutter than this thing.

It’s uglier than a cord.

Looks like a fire hazard to me.

It also seems like it would use up both outlets. Looks nice if you only have one thing to charge, but it’s hard to imagine having these scattered around the house to take care of your phone, ipod, camera, etc.

Looks like a urinal w/an iPod johnny-cake.

Bryce: I just couldn’t put my finger on it but you did. Brilliant.
Brandon: My exact thought…”UL approved?”
Apart from that, It *might* be a conversation piece on an outlet that is higher on the wall. Maybe above the counter top in the kitchen. It’s a stretch and definitely NOT an unclutterer!

Well I like it because I it keeps me from tripping on the cord and knocking my blackberry on the floor, thus breaking it. I am klutzy like that. Plus the design is kinda sexy.

I find it absolutely superfulous. I’d never buy something like this.
What bothers me most, other than how unnecessary it is, is the way it sticks out of the wall. I wouldn’t like to install this on a low socket and then inadvertently kick it out of its place, and with it whatever expensive gadget is charging up.

Cut one yourself from a mousepad. Use a t-shirt shape, and you’ll see that’s the trick behind this device. Save $13.
