Decluttering Tip: An Alternative Use of eBay for Removing Clutter

The uncluttering process is a constant battle against the mightsomedayneeds — the feeling of discomfort associated with getting rid of an item that you feel you might someday be able to use. When I encounter this feeling, I sometimes look up the item in question on eBay.
There are normally two outcomes of looking up an item that I’m on the fence about. Either it turns out to be something of value that can be sold, or I give myself concrete proof that not only is the item abundant, but cheap, should it be something I ever need again.
I offer as an example this souvenir Da Vinci Code cryptex. It was given away as a prize to the 10,000 people that completed a series of puzzles for the Google Quest movie promotion, and it’s been taking up space in my drawer ever since.
It’s something I have no use for whatsoever, but I’ve been hesitant to throw it out. So I looked it up on eBay, and found that the same item has been selling for as much as $76!
Now I have no excuse to keep the cryptex around, and hopefully in the next couple of days I’ll be a little richer and a little less cluttered.
