We’ve used 1-800-GOT-JUNK twice, and they were the friendliest, most courteous people we’ve done business with. They were on time, quick, and the fee was well worth getting rid of my junk. They didn’t disturb a single inch of my home, charged exactly what the estimate said, and even called me the next day to see how it went, and what I thought. I imagine these are franchises, and your service can vary, like all franchises, from business to business (ours are in South Carolina). However, we’ve had excellent luck with this particular company, and I can definitely recommend them.

Friends of mine (in the Boston area) recently had a terrible experience with this company — they left a far bigger mess than the one they charged (extravagantly) to pick up after. Strongly disrecommended.

The minimum charge with got junk is sorta high, so it’s best to have a fair amount of junk to make it worthwhile.

Another way to get rid of things is to post it for free on Craigslist. I had somehow acquired an old microwave that I didn’t even want to plug in and see if it worked, let alone clean it. I put it online, said it was free for whomever would come get it, but that I made no promise of it working or not. Within 15 minutes I was handing it off to a couple of girls that were moving into a new apartment, and didn’t mind cleaning it up and hoping it worked. If so, it was a win/win for everyone. Now, I do that with all my stuff.
